You'd think this guy has been an athlete all his life! Meet Wynn Greer - HandBand Pro®'s newest sponsored athlete! With a life motto of "Let my life be a light", this full time pastor and part time ski instructor inspires and motivates and even finds time compete in Crossfit and OCR events! Welcome to Team HandBand Pro®, Wynne!
Physical activity before I began doing Crossfit consisted of mowing the lawn in the summer and splitting and carrying wood for the stove in the winter. The middle age spread was taking shape along with aching hands, knees and back. I had little energy to do the things with my wife and children that I really wanted to do.
Then I found an ad for a local Crossfit affiliate that was very near my house. I stopped in, talked with the owner and started the next day having been at it ever since. That was August before I turned 44 in October. I had no idea what I was in for. I just knew it was a gym, and they lifted weights and got in shape.
After the first introductory class my goal was just to survive. I knew if I could make it through the first week or so the soreness would subside I had been sore before but not like that. Oh my goodness I could barely walk or get out of bed but I loved it.
My next goal was not to get hurt My motto from the beginning was that I always had a goal to be able to come back the next day. While others were doing things like pistols and muscle-ups and snatches, I was just happy to be there. I continued to take it all very cautiously and little by little have been able to do the things I never would have dreamed possible.
Only one thing has hindered my goal of being able to come back tomorrow and that has been the problem of ripped hands! I had tried all kinds of tape and straps and prevention. Still it would eventually happen again. Ripped hands not only keep you out the next day but for many days. Not to mention I also am a full time Pastor. I do more than my share of handshaking. It is embarrassing and unsanitary to have hands that look like you have been chopping wood using the wrong end of the axe.
The last time it happened I remembered my Instagram friend Kerry Marraffino had been bragging about these great grips from Handband Pro. I ordered some and thousands of reps later my hands are still rip free. I not only use them for pull-ups but love them for kettlebell work and rowing. They give me that little bit of extra grip in just the right spot. I use the Warrior because I like the fact that it has a wrist wrap built in. If I do not need the grip I can just fold and secure it out of the way.
My Crossfit goals are to finish in the top 200 in the Open in my age group. I barely missed that mark in 2015 and 2016. Last year my oldest son and daughter all ran our first Spartan race together. I am also a part time ski instructor with the French Swiss Ski College at Appalachian Ski Mountain in Western North Carolina.
Fitness and being an athlete is not so much a goal but a journey. Two things will hinder your journey. One is if you never start and the other is not going back.
